08:27 a.m. [Sweet dreams -_-] >>
Watched From Hell with my family last night. I had two reviews in my head before I saw it; one from the newspaper, one from my friend at the Conservatoire. What I registered from the newspaper was: they show us who Jack the Ripper was, with this whole royal family-involving conspiracy in the background; the main character is messed up; it's pretty gory. What I registered from my friend was: it really sucks, do *not* go see it with your boyfriend (that's what she did - the people from the Conservatoire orchestra appear to date eachother, from what I can tell), Johnny Depp is cute and there's a strident B flat in the soundtrack at some point. She also gave me the ending spoiler, but it doesn't stop the fact that I was pissed about it (who gives a damn about the *girl*!?). And my review includes everything from both reviews except the "it really sucks". I can't vouch for the B flat though, I didn't know which note she was talking about. ^^;; It's really *good*, actually, and the Hughes brothers are cool. I'd admit that I hadn't been so creeped out since The Sixth Sense, and I was worried about nightmares - I *did* dream about it all night, and only about it from what I recall, but there was no Jack the Ripper, thank Kuja-sama. It was mostly Abberline talking, but I don't remember a thing of what he said. Which reminds me, there was Ian Holm and Robbie Coltrane in the movie. Funny.
... Changing the subject.
Svet : You know that kanji clique you have on your blog? It's showing my sister's name at the moment! ^^ It's not that common a character in Chinese (nothing like "moon" or whatever the previous one was), but apparently in Japanese it's "art" - or is it, Neechan? It's the "gei" in "geisha", I think. And glad you're enjoying Phil. When are you people coming back from CAMMAC? Are you going to have Internet connection, or am I going to spend all of July chatting to my imaginary pet chihuahua? T_T
Yeah, dysfunctional families. They all are these days. -_- Gives our eardrums some practice before Going Out To The World, ne?

07:19 a.m. [Farewell to soccer in only a day...] >>
Turkey is currently beating the heck out of South Korea, but I've only watched 6 minutes of the game so I couldn't talk about the rest. Sigh.
Svet : There isn't exactly anything "really interesting" about Pullman's style. Especially not in the French translation - they don't even keep Lyra's accent. But it's still good, hey. ^^ And Lord Asriel rocks.

08:12 a.m. [Uninspired] >>
Finally got down to watching Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain yesterday, without subtitles so we had to settle with the French accent that I wish I had. It's... cute. Sweet. But not exactly feel-good. For example, contrarily to what the Gazette critic said, I would not be comforted if I had watched it after the Habs had just had their depressing meltdown in the infamous Game 4. It's still fun, though.
I need a new layout in 2 days, and I've made version 12, but not version 11 (version 12 is a)dark; b)green and c)CLAMP, so I decided that I could wait a while for a bit of change -_-). I still need a pic! Inspiration, come to me.

08:09 a.m. [Today it'll be Amélie] >>
Kiss of the Dragon sucks! Besides Jet Li and the action sequences, of course - I didn't really like the rest. -_- See, the French vilain was the coolest character again, because of the accent. ^_^;;
Svet: Buffy rocks! I've only seen the first season and bits of the second and third... in disorder, but from my impression the first season seems the best anyway. Except maybe for Spike. Spike is cool. ^_^
So, when's the bronze medal game? Turkey's gonna beat the hell out of South Korea. -_-

Ocean's Eleven is cool. ^__^
Turkey is pretty good. They're giving Brazil a hard time. I'd even say they're... matching Brazil. I *do* hope they manage to beat them, though. -_-
I love the summer. XD

02:57 p.m. [You call the sun outside summer? >_<] >>
If only Spain and Germany's places were switched, I'd be so much happier. -_-
About Quo Vadis?: Vinitius and Ligia suck! I'm currently in this long, sappy, pax vubiscum passage that is tragically Petronius-free. I'll die if he doesn't show up soon. X[
I have a new layout all ready in Photoshop, but I think the colours are too dark. I want something... happy. I can't find a happy picture, though. T_T CLAMP, CLAMP, CLAMP... perhaps... oh dear! I've got an idea.
Haha. ^_^

04:23 p.m. [The things you discover...] >>
I just went through my stuff from last year and this school year that just ended. Traumatized for life. Here's more to our list of Hated Gods, for example: Shinra, Lucius Malfoy, Gollum and Danglars. O.o;; *And* I found "Le Crapaud" (by Victor Hugo) again! Wow, reminds me of our Todd Eldredge inside joke. XD
Still traumatized, though.

02:59 p.m. [...] >>
We went swimming yesterday. My dad, hard-core swimmer extraordinaire since his childhood, insists on buying us a family membership so that we can go every day of the summer. O.o Well, no real objection, just a little sudden. ^^
Chopin is cool. I think I should raise him from Professional God status to Supreme God status. The difference between the two is the coolness, you see. ^_~
Nat : Um, good luck? ^^;; Ottawa, is it? Visit the Parliament! My father's painting is there. :P
And someone tell me what's up with FFXI? From what I've heard, it's a horrible mess-up in Japan, which doesn't surprise me that much (and I hope Square never thinks of it again), just that I wish they'd hurry up with FFXII since Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix doesn't seem to be coming out very soon either. -_-

Hear me oh Lucifer Supreme God of Justice and all the others out there. Spain should have won! >_<
They should "take it upstairs" like in hockey, because not one, but two disallowed goals is outrageous. Cuando tendré mis manos alrededor del cuello de aquel *bleep* árbitro... (Yes, I know that I must rewatch Traffic to learn the Benicio del Toro swearwords. ^^;;) Of course, I'm still fond of Korea and Ahn-kun and Guus-san - and you've got to admit that their penalty kicks were flawless. But I'm still going to begin naming things after the Spanish players who have cooler and cuter names. (My PS2 is called "Pedro" now. Maybe I should call my pillow "Raul"... only wait, that one's already called Dave... ^^;;)
Otherwise, I watched A Song to Remember during regulation time as I knew that it would be scoreless. Lemme see... Liszt is funny. He's such a Happy Boy... ^_^ I keep reminding myself that at least 65% of the movie isn't true, but it's still a darned good biopic. And less depressing now that I'm a little older, but much cooler. So why can't I play a Polonaise this year? -_- Two Chopin pieces is really more than you can ask for, and the Scherzo is wonderful, but the study... :S Maybe I'll get the concerto if I pass the CMC this year.
Urgh.

06:29 p.m. [Back ache... >_<] >>
I've been working on a new layout for my father's website. It's *hell* to put up, I assure you. Unfortunately it was self-offered in an élan d'inspiration - green again! I can't believe it. Anyhow, it will probably be up by tomorrow. My parents act rather ungrateful about it. Grmbl mmbl.
Girls : Finished Memoirs of a Geisha - satisfying ending? Rather wierd. The book was *much* better starting off. Well, I suppose it's good, though not supreme or anything. Maybe it's because I'm already used to geisha.
So I started Quo Vadis?, and the first chapter was the funniest thing I'd read since ages. ^^;; But Petronius is cool. I bet he'll earn himself a Supreme God berth once I'm finished. ^_~

08:40 a.m. [Sigh...] >>
So I'm sad about Brazil winning. Then again, I'm sad that it had to be Brazil versus England... Anyone else? T_T I happen to really, really not want a usual team to win the World Cup this time around, it's awfully boring. But anyhow.
Oh darn, I'm such an idiot. I just spoilered myself on the Spain/Korea game at the official website. I knew there was a reason I hadn't checked it earlier. >_< Well... I liked both teams, so... to hell with it all! T_T
Life's an event! I love living it up and not taking things seriously. My friends would say my laugh is contagious... and I'd agree!
Snif. Not exactly in a laughing mood at the moment.

08:01 p.m. [Oooh... really?] >>
According to this test, I'm not a pessimist! Haha!
Anyway, I followed my mother to the library today and borrowed Memoirs of a Geisha and Quo Vadis, as planned. Unfortunately I wasn't inspired enough to think of any other books to borrow, especially since they don't seem to have War and Peace, which is probably criminal. I was ditched in the reading room as my mother left for the supermarket (I prefer reading over shopping), and she returned with some ice cream. ^^ So overall it was a worthwhile trip.
...
Looking forward to tomorrow's game, except for the fact that the replay's only at 7 PM and Neechan suggests that we stay home all day long so as not to get spoilered by screams in the streets or something on those lines. I don't see how that's more obvious than a click online, but since it probably means we'll start cracking on Vagrant Story, I don't really mind. The Chopin biopic will have to wait, though. I have yet to check up whether M. Albrecht, whom the Scherzo I play is dedicated to, is this important Polish dude or something.
Doh, I have such a stomach ache... >_<

07:32 p.m. [^^] >>
Spent some of the afternoon at the Biodome with Nat and Lari. We went through the entire mapped course in less than half an hour, but it was still fun and educational (yeah right), especially since I hadn't been there before and it's not spiffy of a Montrealer not to visit all the tourist sites around her city. ^^ The crocodiles were unmoving, the wierd cross-between-otter-and-beaver-and-bizarre-domestical-animal creatures traumatized me because I had no idea what they were, the bats were... personally enriching (I've never seen real bats before! @_@), the otters making out were adorable and the penguins were cute, though I didn't really spend much time looking at them. There was no Canadian lynx, and I have the impression there was supposed to be. *frown* We spent the most time staring at this gigantic aquarium where we could see millions of fish swimming around in endless circles, and a couple of ducks diving between them for seaweed (nearly touching two with their wings!), and up again, and down again... It's definitely strange to think of ducks "meeting" up with fish constantly. The two don't go together in my head usually. O.O
Then we walked over to Larissa's, who happens to live on a perpendicular street to the one with the Olympic Stadium, the Biodome and métro Viau; I never knew it was so close. O.o We talked about and worried over our community work project with children beginning in August, and were treated to Brazilian chocolates (go Brazil!), and promised eachother to watch the match on Friday. I'm worried about who to root for. I'm worried about who to root for on Saturday, as well... T_T
It occurs to me that I'm saying/writing many things I wouldn't be mentioning usually - must be because of House of Leaves. I just finished the book, except for a part of the appendices, and I'm a little unsatisfied about what's going on with Johnny. -_- Oh well. On with it.
So I took a trip to Archambault as planned after we separated, got the Chopin, annoyed the shop assistant into finding me the Korngold - "if we haven't called you, it's because it hasn't arrived yet - oh, whoops - well, we would have called you in a few days anyway" - and rushed back home to try it out with high hopes. Thankfully I'm not to be disappointed - it sounds like movie music. ^_^ Or rather, movie music sounds like Korngold, and Korngold sounds like Korngold (as Korngold seems to have defined movie music). And I'm also happy to discover that the Princess marries the Brave Little Tailor (I didn't find the title of the piece very inspirational at first, but there's a section called Princess in it...). There are bits and pieces of faerie tale in German. I'm trying to translate them through some online translator at the moment (now I really feel like Johnny Truant...). I'll paste it all here when I'm done.
Oh, and the Chopin is gorgeous, as usual. A slow passage in the middle is apparently based on some Polish Christmas song. Very touching.
My dad needs the connection now.

06:57 p.m. [lemme hug ahn-san!!! XD] >>
Wow, South Korea versus Italy was brilliant... I watched the entire game with my sister, and we were nervous up till 15 minutes in extra time, when my dad walked in and spoilered us because he had heard the results on the radio... >_< I'm so happy Ahn got the golden goal, though. And I feel sorry for the Italians as well. Their goalie rocked.
Svet : Oh dear. I guess I'll move Memoirs of a Geisha to the top of my list, then. I'll probably read it at the same time as Quo Vadis - once I finish Bragelonne, of course. I have less than 200 pages left! ^^;; It's actually becoming much better, and I've half-forgiven Aramis by now. Fouquet and de Guiche are still the coolest characters. *sigh* And Raoul really, really annoys me...
But hopefully I'll have it done by the time we meet up for implication, and then I can give it back. ^^

School's over! Haha!
The maths exam was sort of hard. Or rather, one question was really difficult and the rest depended a lot on calculations from a previous question, etc., so it's easy to have calculational mistakes and I was too sick of the whole thing to redo all those little things afterward. But I hope I get at least 98%, or it'll spoil my cumulative average which is 99%. -_-
Brazil wins over Belgium... I watch Roman Holiday with my mom and sis, and find the end sort of "...". Audrey Hepburn is kawaii, though. Well, what do you want, it's yet-another Ruritanian fantasy and most of them seem to end exactly the same way or close enough. All except The Princess Diaries, but that's because these days princesses can marry who they want. I think.
Svet : OKCounter is a pretty interesting discovery because it's Korean, from what I can tell. ^^ Unfortunately not so many of their graphics look so good on our layouts, but it doesn't stop the fact that they're cool. :P
Celebration time! XD

Hey, it's the first time that I rooted for a team and it won! Go Spain go! XD The shoot-out or whatever you call it in soccer, after extra time, is so exciting. ^^ Yep, I'm definitely following the World Cup now. Today's Brazil vs Belgium, but I'll be doing my maths exam when it starts. -_-
In a few hours, school will be really over! :P

08:14 a.m. [] >>
Oh dear, I'm so tired.
I watched The Sound of Music yesterday evening - don't ask. Actually, it was because I had totally forgotten the action sequences and that it was about the World War, and I was in a mood to go through my childhood again and try to understand some things a little better. -_- The only disappointment was that the last minute of the movie is sort of gone, which means that I never saw the end because I had always watched that version when I was little. And now I've got "Edelweiss" stuck in my head.
But it was OK. A few things I remember differently - I didn't even remember the Baroness' existence, for example, but I think she's pretty perspicace this time. And I didn't remember the Captain exactly that way, he's actually a little more sarcastic and less musically repressed (OK, he still is). My favourite character overall is... the head nun! XD She gives the best song-speech.
Ahem.

06:23 p.m. [green! XD] >>
In case you're wondering why in the name of the Seven Gods I've changed my layout again after less than
fifteen days, the answers would be that a) I've never really liked the last one in the first place, and b) we only have the PageMill tryout
for 11 other days and I really don't want to calculate hexadecimals manually because I've forgotten how. -_-
Otherwise: green! I wanted CLAMP this time - I don't think I've done CLAMP since that Card Captor Sakura design that doesn't count
as a layout - and Kakyou is adorable. ^^ It's an abominably simple design, but I'll settle for it, as it took about 2 hours less to create than the usual. Also, I was a little worried about v. 10. I don't think v. 10 looks very elegant. And you can't
put zeroes in front like for version 009, because 010 makes you think it's in hexadecimal and gives 2, if I haven't forgotten how
to read it, either. And with this layout, I'm stuck with more two-digit numbers! T_T I don't think I know anyone who's ever
gotten that far. They usually change the name of their site before reaching the Two Digits of Doom. So I'm the first! XD
I'm in British overdose. Starting from the Sarah Caudwell mystery novel, then About a Boy which I began and finished yesterday
because graduations are a bore to attend (needless to say I was reading the whole time), and now some Oscar Wilde comedy.
I have to see the two last movies, by the way - especially The Importance of Being Earnest. ^^ Anyway, my point was that I am
going to start using British expressions and swearwords, though I probably won't have the accent until another 4 novels (unfortunately).
I have a whole list of novels to go through - including Quo Vadis and Memoirs of a Geisha which my mother read
in Chinese. O.o And the Basketball Diaries - I sort of want to read that too. (The movie, that we watched in Don't-Take-Drugs
class when I was in 6th grade, left me walking down the street to the bus stop in a sort of Johnny Truant dizziness. Then again,
though I keep thinking I haven't aged physically or psychologically since I was eleven, it was one of the first movies of the sort
that I had ever seen. So I can't really judge anymore.)
To add to the whole Britishness thing, I've finally decided that I'll follow the World Cup since it seems to have more success at my school than the Stanley Cup anyway, by watching England win 3-0 over Denmark. (Since when was the English flag a red cross on a white background? Or is it just me again?) Hmm, Beckham's haircut is interesting.
Bung-ho, cheerio. ^^
